PROCRASTINATION...ELLEN DEGENERES STYLE

Confession: I started this post LAST YEAR

And by "last year", I don't just mean December. I mean, I started this post last New Year's. As in, over a year ago. Ouch. How's that for being honest?

I had every good intention to publish it. Really, I did. And then, somewhere along the lines, I didn't. This embarrassing delay sort of reminds of Ellen Degeneres' one hour stand-up comedy act Here and Now. The bit is all about procrastination and is both outrageously funny and shockingly true. It's the brilliant kind of balance that only Ellen could achieve.

Procrastination is not something I try to make a habit of, but every once in a while, it does happen. And, thus is the case with today's last year's post. I could have just deleted the post and no one would be the wiser, but after reading through it, I realized that the post is still very relevant. It turns out, I want the same things for 2013 that I did for 2012: a simple, stylish and soulful life!

So, why not post it now (with a few tweaks) before another year passes?

It's the start of a new year and a time when people resolve to accomplish goals, change bad habits and basically do life better than they did last year!

My wish list for 2012 2013 can be summed up into one word: uncomplicated. Yes, life's about to get calm, cool and hopefully collected! Simplifying my schedule is the obvious plan of attack, but it'll take more than just cutting back on commitments to bring the cool factor back into my life! For a design-minded individual like myself, this also means setting up interior environments that are conducive to pared back living and a clear frame of mind.

I've been transforming my bedroom into a pretty little oasis (over the last year and a bit) and already feel more at ease. I'm now turning my focus to carving out a more functional and inspirational home office for myself. My roommate and I recently shifted some furniture around in our living-dining room to carve out a little niche for me to work in. The space's decor is still looking pretty rough, but I'm already excited about the few vignettes I've managed to pull together. Like the one pictured above: I just adore the cheekiness of the Wizard of Oz quote - "There's no place like home" - in my home office!

  1. Wonderful post, Amy. And such an important truth for all of us to not just aspire to (i.e. New Year's resolution) but also implement in an authentic and realistic way into our well-rutted routines.

  2. I'm so glad you didn't hit delete, Amy! Visioning, right? Good for you for working away at refining your spaces - I'm on the same path, and interestingly with the same two spaces. Our office is kind of there but not quite - it still needs some TLC tweaks... maybe even a bit more in the pairing down, and our bedroom is crying out for help, no doubt about it! :-/

  3. Take your time Amy, everything will get done in it's own time and doesn't it feel good you did it the "right" way instead of rushing?

  5. Sometimes, the posts that boil and bubble for a while are the best. If you want the same things this year as you did last, then I guess you really are committed to them! Enjoy your new home office.

  7. Yep, no place like home so it's important to make it spectacular for US :) Thsi year, I am making myself a client and focusing on my home projects as well ... been working on decorating our bathroom for 6 months (which is crazy since it's the size of a small closet!) and it's not even a RENO but 'decorating' :) . Bravo for putting YOU first! Looking fwd to seeing your transformations!

    1. Good for you making "you" a client. From what I know, most designer's find it hard to make time for their own projects....kind of like the plumber with the leaky faucet. Excited to see what you pull together in your home. Cheers!

  8. loving the new look and glad to hear you had a fantastic time at your trip! I can't wait for my trip to Europe to happen in December and I am totally itching for a revamp of my blog as well.

Will have to research more of what I want in terms of function and layout. Wish me luck :)
