BATHROOM UNDER-CONSTRUCTION - PART 1

After months of dreaming of (ok, dreading) the face-lift of the bathroom in my apartment (you can see the before shots here), I finally made some headway on the project last week. Not only was I drooling over this, but I was actually taking steps to transform this room from rugged to refined.

For over a year, I had been living with walls and trim that were coated in the dullest primer I've ever seen. Never under-estimate the power of paint. I added sparkle to the trim with a fresh coat of white, semi-gloss paint (Simply White, OC-117, Aura by Benjamin Moore). Then, Mommy dearest came to my rescue and painted all the walls (*hugs*). Beneath the chair rail, the walls were painted white to resemble the look of wainscotting. Above, the walls were painted a soft, taupey-grey. The paint colour was a mixture of leftover paint from my Living Room and Kitchen (Sharkey Gray MSL240 and Nimbus Cloud MLS262, Martha Stewart Living, available at Home Depot). This was just my wild attempt at keeping the budget in check. Much to my delight, it worked!

Remember, these are just the "progress" shots. Tonight I'll be picking out a pedestal sink; and, tomorrow my friend's handyman husband will give my stained and scuffed floor tiles a new look. There is lots more excitement to come, so stay tuned folks!
